October 7, 2025 at ORNL's Spallation Neutron Source
Twenty-seven 5th through 10th grade students visited the spallation Neutron Source (SNS) for a day of learning about the SNS by building a scale version in LEGO® bricks.
The girls jumped in and started building. Some models were more complex so we had teams build subassemblies while others were sized for individual effort.
Lunch was enjoyed by all, giving them an opportunity get to know each other creating memories and networks for the future.
The completed subassemblies were the brought to the open space for placement on the plan view of the SNS Accumulator ring. They learned where their assembly fit in the layout and what function it performed to enable science at the SNS.
