Exploring Proton Beams: Hands-On Magnet Assembly for Middle Schoolers
The SNS Accelerator's proton beam accumulator ring corner's components.
In this engaging STEM program for 5th–8th grade students, young scientists wil l discover how magnet assemblies bend and shape proton beams. Designed for teamwork and hands-on learning, each submodule can be built by small groups of 2–3 students in about an hour. A full corner assembly is perfect for an entire class of 20–25 students, making it an ideal collaborative project that brings particle physics to life!
Bending Magnet Assembly - Break into 8 teams of 2-3 students and build a total of 8 of these for one corner.
Quadrupole Magnet Assembly - Break into a single team of 2-3 students and build 1 of these for one corner.
Full Corner Assembly - this intended for a class of 20-25 students broken into 8-10 teams of 2-3 students.
