The ring injection region is where hydrogen ions accelerated in the linac pass through a diamond foil thinner than a human hair and merge into the ring. This is the most complex operation in the accelerator. A special configuration of magnets has to steer the beam to within a fraction of a millimeter to make sure it is accumulated correctly.
